Profit and Loss by Pam Cocchiara

Profit and Loss

Man leaves behind his own polluting trail

As, in pursuit of profit with all speed,

Earth’s finite wealth is plundered by his greed.

Although aware of consequence we fail

To curb our pillage and will not curtail

This rape of Earth’s estate with reckless speed,

For progress is Man’s god and gain his creed

And wastefulness is on a massive scale.

But now it’s time that we admit our fault

And seek to find some means we may deploy

To turn the tide. Our most important goal of course is

To wanton desecration call a halt,

Restrain the wastrel ways that we employ,

And save Earth’s fast diminishing resources.
